The Engaging Conflict Summer School is designed for highly motivated students and professionals who are looking for an intensive programme aimed at critically understanding conflict, violence and related policy choices or normative standings, from non-intervention to conflict prevention and peacebuilding.
Applications are welcome by any professional or student who is in possession of the required qualifications by the end of the application period. These are a Bachelor’s honours degree (such as the “laurea triennale” for Italian students) and the full command of English.
Outstanding undergraduate students (i.e. students who have not yet obtained their degree before the end of the application period) who are enrolled in a study programme focused on peace and conflict studies or related fields may also apply, provided that they have completed at least one academic year.
Special consideration will be given to applicants who can demonstrate their English proficiency, that is applicants who have pursued an academic degree in English; who have spent a significant amount of time abroad for study or work purposes; who have obtained an international English certificate and met the following standards: IELTS - 6.5; TOEFL (internet-based) - 100; TOEFL (computer-based) - 250; TOEFL (paper-based) - 600; Cambridge Advanced English (CAE) - pass; Cambridge Proficiency in English (CPE) - pass.
Since the maximum number of accepted participants is 30, a careful selection is carried out in order to make sure that the learning environment is as dynamic and challenging as possible.
The Selection Committee focuses on the following factors:
• Academic performance and fluency in English;
• Consistency of the academic background/professional expertise with the topics covered in the Summer School;
• Individual potential as expressed by the applicant’s CV;
• Strength of the motivation and commitment of the applicant as expressed in the personal statement.
The EC Office will start accepting applications on Monday 7 March 2022.
Applicants are requested to fill in the online application form and upload relevant supplementary documents as defined in the application checklist below.
Upon receiving candidates’ online application, the EC Office will check that compulsory requirements are met and that all required documents have been correctly submitted. The application package will then be passed on to the Selection Committee, which is chaired by the Director of the Engaging Conflict Summer School and constituted by scholars and experts appointed by T.wai and the University of Turin.
No application will be accepted after Sunday 17 April 2022 (11:59 pm CET).
All complete applications will be assessed by Tuesday 26 April 2022. Selection results will be sent individually to all applicants (whether admitted or not) immediately thereafter. Please make sure to check your spam folder.
Successful applicants receiving an offer must formally accept it and send proof of fees payment (750€ via direct bank transfer) to the EC Office at engaging.conflict@twai.it within a week from receiving the notification.
Applicants who fail to send such confirmation and proof of fees payment by the set deadline will have their offer withdrawn. Any newly-available place will be offered to the highest-ranking applicants in the waiting list.
